The support structure for a chair, with integrated cushions and upholstery to be installed in a chair cushion carrier, has a shaped cushion insert (8) of plastics to fit into the chair carrier section. It has an edge section (9) around one or more open areas (10,11) to be filled with a foam plastics material and bonded to the edges (9). The foam cushion is covered by an upholstery material, with its edges bonded to the foam-free edge surfaces (13) of the cushion insert unit (8).
