The images of the original sequence are divided into a number of strips of uniform width which are actualised at a standard frame rate (typically 5 Hz) of an under-sampled sequence. The complete picture can then be reproduced as soon as a new strip at the higher original frame rate (typically 25 Hz) is decoded. The transmission time is reduced to the interval between two frames, and the overall delay in reproduction to the reciprocal of the prod. of the lower frame rate and number of strips, plus twice the reciprocal of the prod. of that rate and the number of macro-blocks.
