Longer life, dimensionally stable press felt effectively drying paper

A press felt used in paper mfr. comprises a felt layer needle punched to a bracing web of synthetic fibre yarn. Here, the web threads consist of a bi-component fibre, where the basic fibres have a m.pt., corresp. to fibre type, above a process temp. used in press felt mfr. and the component fibres have a m.pt. below the said temperature. Pref. the component fibre m.pt. is below 160 deg C. The basic fibre can be either a monofilament yarn or a multi-filament yarn. The component fibre is a multi-filament yarn. The bi-component fibre is formed either by modifying a basic fibre or by twisting together two yarns, one from the basic fibre and the other from the component fibre.
