摘要 Method is used for the investigation and measurement of precipitation of materials from, or solution of materials in, water or other liquids during variations of temperature and pressure by weighing samples on a piezoelectric scale (1). Samples are placed on a surface (2) of scale (1) whilst a controlled heating/cooling source (4) is used to vary temperatures. Precipitation/absorption rates are determined by scale measurements. Also claimed is the apparatus for applying the method. Controlled pressure variation is achieved through regulator (5) and monitor (15). Heating/cooling is accelerated by a connection (3) for fluid of high thermal conductivity flowing between heat source (4) and underside of scale (1) with allowance for pressure variations through a pressure equaliser (6) across the scale. The upper surface of plate (2) may be varied in degrees of roughness as well as in its chemical composition in order to simulate a variety of circumstances under which precipitation or absorption may occur. Undesirable electrical potentials are dissipated by a source (7) whose secondary electrode (8) and measurement electrode (9) are immersed in the liquid sample. The apparatus consists of a sealed chamber (10) above plate (2) with inlet tube (11) and outlet tube (13) for the sample and regulator (5) for pressure variations. Small samples of the order of 0.1-1 ml. can be examined. Used samples are discarded through tube (12).
