<p>PURPOSE:To improve the detection accuracy of a moving amount and to reduce a calculation amount by using plural motion vector detection means at the time of successively detecting motion vectors in low-order hierarchies with high resolution based on the motion vectors detected in the high-order hierarchies with low resolution. CONSTITUTION:In a first hierarchy moving amount detection part 9, movement is compensated by the motion vector detected in a second hierarchy moving amount detection part 8 and the moving amount is detected by a block matching method for a small area. From the detection part 9, the result of adding the detected motion vectors of all the hierarchies is outputted as the motion vector. By detecting the motion vector with the accuracy of less than picture elements in the high-order hierarchy in this moving amount detector 1 constituted as a whole in such a manner erroneous detection is eliminated and the detection accuracy is improved. That is, when the picture data S3 of a third hierarchy moving amount detection part 6 which is the highest hierarhcy in the moving amount detector 1 are obtained, the moving amount detection of picture element accuracy is performed to the data S3 and the moving amount detection of fine accuracy is performed by the third hierarchy moving amount detection part 7.</p> |
