PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head which is suitable for narrow tracking and is free from deviation in track at a good yield by forming notches for regulating a track width in such a manner that these notches exist at both ends in the longitudinal direction of a magnetic gap viewed from a magnetic tape sliding surface side. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic head consists of a pair of magnetic material cores 11, 12 which are disposed to face each other to oppose the projecting end faces to each other via the magnetic gap 1 and are previously worked to a projecting shape and a pair of glass blocks 15, 16 which are disposed on both sides of both cores 11, 12 in order to couple both cores 11, 12 to each other. The magnetic head has the notches 13a, 14a across the two magnetic material cores 11, 12 separate from the parts worked to the projecting shape to regulate the track width on the magnetic tape sliding surfaces of the two magnetic material cores 11, 12. These notches 13a, 14a exist at both ends in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic gap viewed from the magnetic tape sliding surface side.
