摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a semiconductor optical element which is small in size and has a variable wavelength filter function in that an arbitrary single wavelength is taken out of plural wavelengths at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:An array type waveguide grating is constructed by an array shaped waveguide 29 consisting plural waveguides having delay time differences, slub waveguides 23 and 24 which are provided on the both ends of the wavelength 29 and having a lens effect to converge the light beams from plural waveguides on the array waveguide onto a focal surface. The pitch of an output waveguide 22, which is connected to the focal surface of the waveguide 24 being one of the array waveguide grating, is slightly different from the pitch corresponding to the frequency interval of the wavelength multiplexed light beams coupled to an input waveguide. Furthermore, an electrode 31 is provided to apply an electrical field to the entire waveguide 29.
