The determination of the dynamic position of an absolute shaft encoder after its activation, in which the positions used on rotations of the encoder after synchronisation and restoration with optional resolution involves: (a) setting a maximum rotation rate; (b) measuring the encoder rotation rate; (c) capturing a number of signals including a given signal, so as to identify a synchronisation position; (d) modifying the synchronisation position by one or more impulses and outputting this signal as the instantaneous position at a predetermined signal edge. The value of the encoder absolute position is maintained internally by adding/subtracting to the running position according to the direction of rotation.
