The invention concerns a linen dryer with a drying drum (12) which is rotated by a drive unit (24), the drum being mounted in a dryer housing (18) on rotating friction rings (14) which are in contact with track rings (20) on the drying drum (12). The proposed arrangement whereby at least a part of the friction rings (14) is in contact with a drive surface (22) which can be driven by the drive (24) in one direction via the said friction rings (14) and which, when it changes direction, causes the drying drum (12) to move in the same direction as the drive surface (22), as well as serving to provide at least partial support for the drying drum (12), results in a linen dryer which is reliable, inexpensive to produce and requires little maintenance.
