The bearing assembly for a spinning or twist spindle has a spindle housing, connecting firmly with a spindle rail, to take a bearing tube for a spindle shaft connected to a drive wharf in the region of a top bearing. This bearing is firmly held and a bottom bearing elastically held in the tube in an axial direction. Here the bearing tube bends elastically in an area between top and bottom bearings, and is sprung-supported and damped radially against the housing in the area of the bottom bearing. It is also, in the top bearing area, similarly supported and damped and in addition axially supported etc. in the bottom bearing area. It engages against a stop in the top bearing area.
