PURPOSE:To obtain a bactericide capable of keeping antibacterial activity at a small dose for a long time and having high safety obtained by using an isothiazolone compound in combination with halonitroalcohols and by using specific two kinds of the halonltroalcohols in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:This bactericide is obtained by using an isothiazolone compound of the formula (R<1> is H or a halogen; R<2> is H or an alkyl) in combination with 2,2-dihalo-2-nitroethanol and 2-halo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol [at the ratio of the former/the latter=55-85/45-15 (wt.%)]. The halonitroalcohols are preferably used in a total amount of 3-40 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt of a compound of the formula. 2-Methyl-5-chloro-4-isothiazolin-3-one is preferable as the compound of the formula. The halonitroalcohols are preferabl-y used in a total amount of 5-30 pts.wt. in combination with 1 pt.wt. of 2-methyl-5-chloro-4- isothiazolin-3-one. The composition is useful as a bactericide for an industrial use, especially as a bactericide for a sizing agent. |
