The steering wheel (10) and steering column (22) are fastened to each other in the direction of their common axis by clamping of splined couplings at right angles to this axis. A connecting sleeve (16) with a slot (14) is fastened to the hub of the steering wheel and internally is provided with one of the splined couplings. The sleeve pushes on to the end of the column which externally has the mating other splined coupling.
