PURPOSE:To stably discharge ink and to provide high speed recording stability even when printing quality priority ink is used by holding second liquid on a nozzle surface. CONSTITUTION:An ink cartridge 13 has a second liquid tank 15 together with an ink tank 14. The second liquid fully filled by the cartridge is supplied to the vicinity of a nozzle 1 by a second liquid impregnating member 16, a wiper 18 is moved relatively in a direction of an arrow (y), thereby coating the surface of a nozzle forming member 2 with it. Since the second liquid has the excellent features of the hydrophobic property of nonvolatile ink and the affinity with the nozzle surface, it is thinly, uniformly spread on the surface of the member 2. Accordingly, particularly when printing quality priority ink is used, remarkably unstable discharge can be effectively suppressed. Since the viscosity etaof the second liquid is increased larger than that of the ink and the vibration of meniscus generated immediately after the ink is discharged can be effectively attenuated, its printing speed can be improved. |
