Vehicle airbag flap mounting

An airbag retainer system, to retain a vehicle occupant on an impact, has a shoulder (19) round the airbag flap (15), with a shoulder flank 9191) parallel to the rear side of the airbag flap towards the leading side of the flap. The edge gripping round at the instrument panel (11) acts as a strap flank (201) towards the opening (17) and parallel to it. It grips the shoulder (19) of the airbag flap (15) at least partially, with the strap flank (201) lying on the shoulder flank (191). An elastic sealing strip (30) is at the base of the opening (17), round the airbag opening (18). Also claimed is a mfg. process where the prefabricated airbag flap is laid in the foaming mould for the instrument panel and the strap in the joint has a slight conical shape so that the airbag flap is centred automatically.
