<p>PURPOSE: To provide a bar code decoder and its method for decoding bar code from high speed digital video data. CONSTITUTION: While a programmable high speed numeric operation module 10 sums pixel discrete values, twelve latch arrays 8 sequentially stores scan length data. With multivalued level threshold secured, the pixel discrete value of a given element is compared with plural ranges of the pixel discrete value which is used to define the number of a module in every element. A module discrete value of every element is compared with start or stop code patterns, and a look-up table 30 is used to decode characters based on the module discrete value of every element after the start code is detected. Thereby, a bar code can be decoded at the speed which can not be reached by a conventional device.</p> |
