Both bar code and descriptive label printer

The bar code printer uses a thermal printing technique to print bar coded labels and to print descriptive labels including information input from an external data source. Data is entered at a keyboard (9) with controls for erasure (10), verification (11a), space (11b), power supply (15) and source switching (14). A display panel (18,18'), shows entries as they are made. A digital signal from another source, for example, a weighing machine, is input to a port (2') by a cable (20). A label is prepared by entering descriptive data at the keyboard, then, if required, switching the source switch to accept data from the external device. When the data is accepted and verified the instruction to print is given and a thermal print head prepares both a bar code label and a descriptive label incorporating data from the external device.
