PURPOSE: To perform homogeneously and smoothly consolidation of the surface layer of a wood-board material by preventing a circumferential surface from being deformed by making hardness of circumferential surface of a roll high, by a method wherein chromium plating treatment of the roll is performed after hardening treatment by making use of structural carbon steel. CONSTITUTION: A clutch 5 making turning speeds identical with each other is provided on a pair of rolls 1, 2 and peripheral speeds of both the rolls are aligned themselves with each other. The quality of the material of the rolls 1, 2 is taken as structural carbon steel possessing carbon contents of S 45C or more than this and chromium plating treatment having a film thickness of at least 100μm and less than 130μm is performed after hardening treatment. Hereby, a deformation of the circumferential surface of the top and bottom rolls 1, 2 can be prevented by making the hardness of the top and bottom rolls 1, 2 high. Then a roll gap between the top and bottom rolls 1, 2 is prevented from being generated by a method wherein a pair of female screw members 15, 16 screw on to a male screw member 11 of an elevator elevating the roll 1 and the pair of the female screw members 15, 16 are joined to each other by a plurality of bolts 17.
