PURPOSE: To prevent generation of rust of mold pig iron for casting by recuperating the mold pig iron casting released from mold after casting to the prescribed temp. further cooling to the prescribed temp. and forming the prescribed oxidized film on the surface of mold pig iron. CONSTITUTION: A mold pig iron after released from mold is once reheated to about >=700 deg.C at its surface temp. by exposing to air flow and cooling to about <=500 deg.C at the surface temp., the oxidized film composed essentially ofαhematite is formed on the surface of mold pig iron for casting. The surface of mold pig iron is protected by the oxidized film, though it is piled and stored in open air, generation of rust as well as environmental pollution due to rust scattering are prevented. Further, cooling of mold pig iron is done down to 450-500 deg.C by air flow and to 100-150 deg.C by open air cooling after water cooling, the time can be reduced.
