A back plate (4) of fairly rigid construction has a massage field (1) of a suitable length to enable the back to be massaged. On its working surface are located movable massage pins (2) of varying length. In the central area of the back plate is an area free of massage pins which corresponds to where the spine will be when the back is pressed against the massage field. On the other side of the back plate are suckers (5) for fixing to the side of a bath or a screw clip arrangement (6) can be provided for fixing to a shower pipe. Other means of fixing such as magnets may also be used. The material of the massage device is water and soap resistant. The massage field is shaped to correspond to the contours of the human back by the length and position of the massage pins.
