A closed coat hanger for preventing the theft of garments is in principle a conventional coat hanger in which the hanger hook is replaced by a closed hanger head, whilst at the same time the hanger is provided with arms, which are connected together at the wrists. The hanger is thus a closed unit, which can however be opened at one side of the hanger head 1. When hanging a garment, the hanger is opened at the hanger head and the arms of the garment are drawn down over the two arms of the hanger. The open hanger is then hung on a street stand, for example, the hanger is brought together at the hanger head and locked by means of a padlock, for example. A variant of the abovementioned hangers is identical to these in respect of the locking and fitting on a street stand, for example, but differs in that it is closed at the shoulder section of the hanger. One end of a descending hanger is riveted on to the transverse connecting link between the shoulders, the free end of the descending hanger is brought up to the hanger head and locked thereto. <IMAGE>
