Porous flat formations are made in a simple, novel, cost effective process from plastic-, and optionally, other particles, supplied into a forming cavity (2), enclosed on two opposite sides by curved walls (4). These move tangentially to their curvature, carrying the particles towards the discharge end of the cavity (2). On the way, the particles are united by heat from the walls (4), which then pull back, ready for the next charge of particles. The particle supply may be preheated. Close to the discharge, the walls are cooled.
