PURPOSE: To obtain a double-electrode ion-exchange membrane electrolytic cell capable of being stably operated even at a high current density by making the thickness of a supporting member arranged in an anode compartment frame larger than the thickness of a supporting member arranged in a cathode compartment frame. CONSTITUTION: An anode plate 3 and an anode backplate 4 of titanium material are arranged parallel with each other leaving an interval, and a supporting member 5a is arranged between both plates to form a cathode compartment frame 1. A cathode plate 6 and a cathode backplate 7 of nickel material are arranged parallel with each other at a distance, and a supporting member 8a is arranged between both plates to form a cathode compartment frame 2. The frame 1 and the frame 2 are joined with the backplates 4 and 7 back to back to constitute the partition wall 9 for a double-electrode electrolytic cell. The thickness (or width) of the supporting member 5a of the frame 1 is made larger than the thickness (or width) of the supporting member 8a of the frame 2. Consequently, the distance between the anode and cathode can be shortened, and a double-electrode ion-exchange membrane electrolytic cell low in electrolyzing current is obtained. |
