A continuous, speed-controlled material compaction installation, esp. for material from grinding or shredding of combustible waste, has a continuous line of series-mounted compacting machines (1a,b) with a material feeder (1c) at the inlet of the first machine (1a). Each machine has one or more sets of paired rollers which define a compacting zone and which are rotated with the same peripheral linear velocity to advance compacted material along the compaction line. The first machine (1a) has a constricting neck (18) for channelling the material into the compacting zone (9a) of the rollers of the first machine.
