PRODUCTION OF NUBUCK-TONED ARTIFICIAL LEATHER EXCELLENT IN DESIGN APPEARANCE

PURPOSE: To obtain at low cost a new nubuck-toned artificial leather having appearance resembling the elegance of nubuck-type natural leather. CONSTITUTION: A porous polyurethane layer 50-400μm thick is formed on one side of a substrate consisting of fibrous matter (and polymeric elastomer), the surface of the layer is ground to open and expose the pores, and the resultant surface is coated with a coating predominant in high-molecular compound at a level of 0.2-10g/m<2> on a solid basis. The resultant surface is then brought into contact with a specular or crepe-finished surface followed by hot pressing at a temperature higher than the softening point of the high-molecular compound in the coating but lower than the softening point of the polyurethane constituting the porous polyurethane layer.
