THERMALLY MOLDABLE LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL AND MOLDED CEILING MATERIAL FOR CAR USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: To provide a lightweight molding material from which problems of conventional technique are eliminated, which is excellent in sound absorbing properties and heat insulating properties, has a good heat moldability and a high strength and to provide a molded ceiling base material for a car. CONSTITUTION: A thermally moldable lightweight material is a composite material comprising an inorg. fiber and a thermoplastic resin and has a density of 30-600kg/m<3> . The thermoplastic resin is a styrene copolymer or polystyrene with glass transition temp. of 60 deg.C or higher and the ratio of the inorg. fibers and the thermoplastic resin is set to 0.9-0.5:0.1-0.5. A molded ceiling base material for car is produced by the heating and cold press of the thermally moldable lightweight material and has an average density of 100-300kg/m<3> .
