For oxygen enrichment of the blood during sleep the invention proposes that oxygen-enriched air be fed into the space between the cover (46) and the top side of the mattress of a bed. This is done in part through the interior of a mattress (14) with an air-permeable cover layer (18, 20), in part through a soft interposed mat (48) laid over the sleeper.
