Li and Mn (III/IV) are prepd. by reaction of stoichiometric amts. of a Li cpd., a Mn cpd. and, if necessary, another metal cpd. at 200-800 degrees C under conditions under which the Mn takes up an oxidn. state of 3.5 to 4. The conversion is carried out with mixing of the reactants. Also claimed are spinels made by this method and their use as cathode materials in electrochemical cells. |
