Cash register with data memory in form of secure chip card

The electronic cash register is operated by software such that it cannot function unless a chip card (3) is inserted into its card reader (2) with information on the rights of usufruct e.g. with a VAT account. The control unit (4) checks via communication lines (5) that the card is present, that its period of validity has not expired and that the amt. of VAT on recorded transactions is within the authorised limit. If these conditions are not satisfied no receipt can be issued and the drawer cannot be opened.
