Diffusion ultrasonic computer tomograph for medical diagnosis

Short pulses of ultrasound with controllable width and repetition rate are generated (1) and transmitted by a telescopic emitter (2) into the recumbent patient (5). The emitter is terminated in an array of transducers (3), and its mounting (6) is freely revolvable around a guidance ring (8) by a stepping motor (7). Pulse broadening (10) by scattering and absorption is detected by a receiving array (11) revolving in diametrical opposition to the emitter. Single pulses are accumulated and averaged (12) for evaluation by the computer (13). An electronic controller (145) gives a number of temporally sepd. ultrasound pulse sequences.
