PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the temp. of a supply stream high without requiring high vacuum by supplying a vaporous mixed supply substance to the supply side of a membrane while allowing a sweep stream of condensible vapor to flow countercurrently and transferring steam to the transmission side of the membrane to form a non-condensed transmission side mixture before separating water. SOLUTION: A supply stream 10 containing steam and a waste vapor component is supplied to a membrane module 25. A condensible sweep stream 32 is supplied to a vapor inlet opening in the vicinity of the holding end of the membrane module 25 on the transmission side of the module 25 as a countercurrent stream. Whereupon, stream is selectively removed from the supply stream within the membrane module 25 to form a holding stream 14 deprived of a component A. the condensible vapor sweep stream 32 is mixed with a vapor transmitted substance rich in steam transmitted through the membrane of the module 25 to become a transmitted mixture which is, in turn, discharged from the vapor outlet opening provided in the vicinity of the supply end of the module 25. By this constitution, the flow rate of a transmitted stream is increased by the increase of propelling force.
