A lengthwise beam (L), preferably telescopic, has two head beams (14) at the ends. Each has two twist-locks (16) engaging in the container corner fittings. The damper (27) between each lock and the lengthwise beam is for the vertical components of shock-loads. Each head beam can comprises a central portion (23) fixed to the lengthwise beam and two end ones (24), each with a lock. Each of the latter is coupled to the central one via a vertical guide (25) allowing a limited amount of movement. The dampers are mounted between the central and end portions, and can be double-acting.
