ANTI-THEFT LOCKING APPARATUS FOR STEERING WHEELS

This invention concerns a lock apparatus for locking a steering wheel of a vehicle and limiting the rotation of the steering wheel. The lock apparatus comprises: an elongate handle member; a pair of U-shaped hook members having two ends, the U-shaped hook members being disposed a predetermined distance apart fixedly secured at one end of the U to the elongate handle member fox extending around a portion of the steering wheel of a vehicle, the U-shaped hook members extend transversely of the elongate handle member, and a locking structure for cooperating with the U-shaped hook members to secure the elongate handle member to the steering wheel, the locking structure being pivotally mounted on the elongate handle member in between the pair of U-shaped hook members and being movable to a closed position where it cooperates with the U-shaped hook members, the locking structure is also movable to an open position to release the lock apparatus from the steering wheel, the pivotal axis of rotation of the locking structure is disposed longitudinally of the elongate handle member, the locking structure further includes a lock housing which defines a pair of openings through which the elongate handle member extends, the locking structure includes a flat lock-plate and the elongate handle member defines a corresponding lock-plate opening, the flat lock-plate selectively extends into and out of the lock-plate opening when the locking structure is in the closed position thereby preventing pivotal movement of the locking structure when the flat lockplate is selectively extended into the lock-plate opening on the elongate handle member.
