PURPOSE: To obtain the improving agent consisting of an alkylacrylate-based polymer and an alkylmethacylate-based polymer each having an alkyl group of a specific carbon number, excellent in viscosity index improving capabilities, low temperature viscosity and oxidation resisting characteristics, and fuel saving properties. CONSTITUTION: This viscosity index improving agent comprises consisting of (A) an alkylacrylate-based polymer and (B) an alkylmethacrylate-based polymer each having a 1-20C alkyl group. It is preferable to blend 20-80wt.% component (A) and 80-20wt.% component (B). Furthermore, as the alkylacrylate constituting the component (A) or the alkylmethacrylate constituting the component (B), n-octyl (meth) acrylate or 2-ethylhexyl (meth) acrylate alone or the alkyl (meth) acrylate consisting of the monomer having the 8C alkyl group, ethyl (meth) acrylate and/or n-, i- or t-butyl (meth) acrylate are preferred. Furthermore, it is preferable to blend a pour point depressant to the above improving agent. |
