PURPOSE: To improve the environmental stability, durable stability and uniform chargeability of the member by specifying the average primary particle diameter and powder resistance of a conductive pigment. CONSTITUTION: This charging member is brought into contact with a body to be charged to impress a voltage and to charge the body. The member has at least a conductive elastic layer 2b and a surface layer in contact with the body. The surface layer contains a fluoric binder material and a conductive pigment, and the average primary particle diameter of the pigment is controlled to 0.5-5μm and the powder resistance to 10<-2> -10<6>Ωcm. The charging member consists of a mandrel 2a for impressing a DC voltage or the superimposed voltage of the DC voltage and AC voltage, a conductive elastic layer 2b for imparting elasticity and a layer 2c for controlling the resistance of the member, and a coating layer 2d is provided, as required, outside the resistance control layer. This charging member is used in an electrophotographic picture forming device, and the environmental stability, durable stability and uniform chargeability are excellently exhibited. |
