The system rotates the wheels of the aircraft at a speed corresp. to the rolling speed on touchdown when the aircraft reaches a defined altitude and landing speed. When the aircraft touches down the drive system for the wheels is released by a control unit in response to a signal from a pressure switch (10), after which it idles. The idling wheels' instantaneous revolution rate is detected and transferred to the wheels which are still clear of the ground by the control unit so that their rotation speeds are identical to those of the idling wheels when they contact the ground. Each drive system can be an asynchronous motor (5) connected to the control unit via a frequency converter (6).
