A transformer (1), primary winding (Lp) is connected to a DC source (Vin) through a switching - e.g. MOS - transistor (Tp) with bypass diode (Dp). A shunt capacitor (Cp) attenuates switching transients. The secondary winding (Ls), similarly controlled (Ts, Ds, Cs) feeds a load (Z), which may be regenerative, with a smoothing capacitor (Cout). Each operating cycle comprises four successive phases (T1, T2, T3, T4), during two (T2, T3) of which source energy is first (T1) stored in the transformer, then (T3) discharged into the load after a fixed interval. The other phases are transitional. Transistor switching signals (Hp, Hs) emanate from control units (70, 80) with an error signal input derived (61) from the output voltage (Vout) and a reference (Vref). Other inputs include a voltage signal (VIp) from a bi-directionally responsive primary current (Ip) sensor (62).
|
