The inclinometer is of overall cylindrical form, made of back to back series of measuring modules (7) introduced into an inclinometer tube (3). Each module is linked to the adjacent modules by mechanical members (an articulated linkage with a longitudinal hole (17) through it) and by communication link (27) passing through the hole. The articulated linkage is a universal joint and the communication link is a bus. Each module has guides made of two arms (31) articulated at one end, with the other end held by elastic members in guide grooves (37) diametrically opposite to the inclinometer tube. These arms are articulated about a common upstream axis and their length is such that, in the guiding position, they form an angle of about 30 deg. to the longitudinal axis (yy') of the module and present the form of an inverted V. The points of contact between the guiding arms and the inclinometer tube, and the centre of the articulated link are aligned. Each module contains members for orientating its two ends relative to the longitudinal axis. The downstream module is connected to a terminal element (9) which contains connectors allowing the bus line to be closed. The downstream or lower end of the inclinometer is completed with a weight (11).
