PURPOSE: To obtain a composite of a shape-memory alloy with a shape-memory polymer excellent in corrosion resistance, insulating properties, and biocompatibility. CONSTITUTION: This shape-memory composite comprises a shape-memory alloy 1 which memorizes a shape recovery action and a shape-memory polymer 2 which memorizes a shape recovery action in the direction different from that of the alloy. The shape recovery temp. (reverse martensitic transformation temp. Af) of the alloy is set to be higher than the shape recovery temp. (glass transition point. Tg) of the polymer, and a temp. at which the value of (recovery stress×sectional area) of the alloy or its generating power becomes equal to the value of (recovery stress×sectional area) of the polymer is set to between Af and the martensitic transformation temp. (Mf). Above the temp. set as above, the shape memorized by the alloy is retained by the action of the alloy to recover to the shape memorized by it; and below the temp. but above the Tg of the polymer, the shape memorized by the polymer is retained by the action of the polymer to recover to the shape memorized by it.
