PURPOSE: To detect display nonuniformity in different area, which is generated on a liquid crystal screen (monochromatic and RGB color). CONSTITUTION: A picture is divided into the grid areas of 16×16 picture elements and concerning each grid area, a first hierarchy generation circuit 4 obtains a gray level cooccurrence matrix by the unit of the picture element to plot in a first hierarchical map 41. A second hierarchy generation circuit 5 obtains the gray level coocurrence matrix by each grid unit to plot in a second hierarchical map 51. Concerning a normal display picture without nonuniformity, the map of each hierarchy is similarly generated to be masters 61 and 62. An nonuniformity detection circuit 6 detects nonuniformity by difference between the masters 61 and 62.
