The deep drawing tool consists of a frame in which at least two deep drawing rings (3,4,6) are mounted co-axially one above the other. A mandrel (7), on the end of which a can (8) is mounted is pushed through the rings. A segmented ring (11) is also mounted in the frame. The segments are normally spread out to lie clear of the mandrel. The segments can be pushed together, to form a ring, by a hollow elastic ring which can be inflated. The segmented ring, when in the closed up position, will keep the mandrel clear of the deep drawing rings when it is being withdrawn. The joints of the segments lie at an angle to the centreline so that the joints will not cause linear scratches on the mandrel. |
