PURPOSE: To obtain a tasteless and odorless antimicrobial material and its processed product, natural material, a chemical synthesized substance or a combined processed product thereof, having high safety and effectively useful as a material for food containers and a packaging material by additionally providing or including protamine in the natural wood, chemically synthesized substance or combined processed product. CONSTITUTION: This antimicrobial material is obtained by coating or impregnating a natural material, a chemically synthetic substance or its combined processed product thereof with protamine of a substance containing the protamine and thereby additionally providing or including the protamine therein. In the case of the coating, the protamine solution is atomized into fine particles having about 10μm particle diameter and the natural material, etc., are coated therewith and then dried to form a thin film on the surface and further form a stable protamine layer. In the case of the impregnation processing, an impregnable material is passed through an aqueous solution containing the protamine to thereby permeate the protamine into the structure and dry the resultant material. The obtained material is effectively useful as a material such as packaging paper, a bag, a film, nonwoven fabric, a container or a utensil in the food field requiring safety especially in the aspects of sanitation control. Since silver ions are not used, the safety is high. The antimicrobial material can be processed into both transparent and opaque materials without any odor such as a horseradish oil.
