PURPOSE: To set the rolling reduction to decrease the residual curvature after straightening of a metallic long size material. CONSTITUTION: A minimum residual curvatureκres.min is obtained from a quadratic expression with the yield curvatureκyl of a metallic long size material and the initial curvatureκni of the metallic long size material, if the minimum residual curvatureκres.min is equal to or smaller than a target residual curvatureκres.tar, the most suitable maximum curvatureκmax.opt as the maximum curvature to act the metallic long size material in the time of passing through a roller leveler in order to make the residual curvature into the minimum is obtained by calculating from a linear expression of making the initial curvatureκini as a variable. Therefore, in the roller leveler that the rolling reduction Di is changed being distributed in an alrnost straight line-like, the inlet side rolling reduction Din is obtained easily by calculating. Further, the distribution of the rolling reduction of the roller leveler is made into a protruding curve-like, and the residual curvature can be decreased more.
