The mercury-switch is e.g. boot-mounted in an adjustable cradle in a plastic case. The mounting is fore-and-aft in a vertical plane, with the switch-tube axis inclined at about 45 deg., or as required to operate at a given deceleration, the contacts at the upper, front, end. The switch is suitably wired to initiate synchronous flashing of rear direction indicator lights in hazard warning mode, either through a dedicated flasher unit or utilising the vehicle's normal hazard warning unit. The initiating relay is sealed in by a switch operated by the brake pedal, maintaining the warning till the pedal is released. Opt., a time delay circuit continues the warning even after pedal release.
