PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly manufacture an electrode for electric discharge machining by preparing a cured resin model with cavities for draining uncured resin, infiltrating a mixture of carbon and resin into the cavities, and curing it. SOLUTION: Suitable curable material 32 such as a mixture of powder graphite and resin flows into each cavity formed over the whole height of a cured resin model 22. The material 32 when cured forms an interconnected structure body with large strength, and this structure body substantially increases the strength of the resin model 22. The resin model 22 is heated in a furnace to burn away its external wall 24 and support walls 26, and relatively narrow channels are formed in the burnt-away positions of the support walls 26. The resin model 22 is preferably heated in an oven of argon gas atmosphere to obtain an electrode formed only of carbon by burning away resin. This electrode is used for electric discharge machining. |
