ANTIBACTERIAL RESIN COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain an antibacterial mildewproofing resin suitable for air conditioner parts by blending a polymer consisting mainly of styrene with an inorganic compound powder carrying an antibacterial metal and an inorganic compound powder carrying an organic thiazoline compound. CONSTITUTION: 100 pts.wt. polymer (A) consisting mainly of styrene is blended with 0.1-3 pts.wt. inorganic compound (B) having a mean particle diameter of 0.1-10μm and carrying an antibacterial metal and 0.1-3 pts.wt. inorganic compound (C) having a mean particle diameter of 0.1-10μm and carrying an organic thiazoline compound to give an antibacterial mildewprooding thermoplastic resin. It is desirable that the inorganic carrier compound B comprises zeolite and that the inorganic carrier compound C comprises silica gel. Cu, Ag, Zn and Ni can be used as the antibacterial metal for the component B. Ag is used preferably in an amount of at most 30wt.%, and other metals preferably in an amount of at most 35wt.% based on the anhydrous inorganic compound. An example of effective organic thiazoline compound used for the component C is 2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one. The resin thus obtained is excellent in surface smoothness, strength, etc.
