The protective guard fits onto or into a bar-shaped component. It and its blades (2) are without covers in the axial direction at its ends, where closing covers can snap or be clamped onto them. It can have a lengthwise slot, by means of which it can hinge open in the peripheral direction, the edges forming the slot hooking together. Alternatively, it can be split in the lengthwise direction, with the halves hooking together. It can be of polygonal and particularly square cross-section.
