An entertainment machine, such as an amusement with prizes (AWP) fruit machine, is enabled by insertion of a code device (20), such as a smart card having an on-board chip containing an authorisation code. The code may be specific to the machine or the machine site so that the machine will only operate if the code checks against a machine or site code. The code may be related to elapse of time or machine usage so that the machine is disabled after predetermined elapse of time or after a predetermined number of games have been played. |
