The RF module is used in conjunction with a transmitter module and a control element for controlling a controlled unit. An encoder for delivering a code signal to the RF module, which is removably mounted on the transmitter module, is also used. An internal monitor circuit monitors whether the code signal is delivered by the encoder within a defined time of switching on the RF module, when the RF module is assembled to generate a carrier modulated by the code signal. If the code signal is a pulse position modulation signal, the monitor circuit detects this and a RF signal output from the RF module is set to OFF.
