PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition, comprising a polyolefin-based resin, red phosphorus and an inorganic filler in a specific proportion, having excellent flame retardance without emitting a halogen-based gas in burning or processing and useful for wide applications. CONSTITUTION: This flame retardant polyolefin-based resin composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. polyolefin-based resin (e.g. a polypropylene-based, a polyethylene-based or a polypentene-based resin), (B) 1-100 pts.wt. red phosphorus (preferably having <=30μm particle diameter and the surface treated with a phenol resin or a titanate coupling agent, etc.) and (C) 0.01-30 pts.wt. at least one inorganic filler selected from metallic oxides, metallic carbonates and metallic borates (e.g. magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, zinc borate or manganese borate). The weight ratio of the components (B):(C) is preferably (100:1) to (1:1), more preferably (30:1) to (2:1).
