PURPOSE: To produce the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for coronary vasodilator, etc., in good yield by reacting a racemic type compound of 2,3-dihydro-3-lower alkanoyloxy-1,5-benzothiazepin-4-ones with a specific microbial cultured product, etc. CONSTITUTION: A racemic type compound of cis-2,3-dihydro-3-lower alkanoyloxy-1,5-benzothiazepin-4-ones of formula I (rings A and B are each independently benzene ring which may have a substituent group; R<1> is a lower alkanoyl; R<2> is H or a di-lower alkylamino-lower alkyl) is reacted with a cultured product, etc., of a microorganism having the ability to preferentially hydrolyze the (2S, 3S) or (2R, 3R) type optical isomer and convert the isomer into the optically active compound of the 2,3-dihydro-3-hydroxy-1,5- benzothiazepin-4-ones. The optically active compound of formula II and the unreacted cis-isomer of formula I are separated and collected from the reactional solution to afford the optically active cis-isomer of formula III (R<3> is H or a lower alkanoyl group). |
